[Nguyễn-Phúc Chu] Thien-tung Dao-nhon, Duke of Tong, Head of State of Dai Viet [Hiển Tông Hiếu-Minh Hoàng Đế]. b. at Kim Long, 11^th June 1675, eldest son of Chua Nghia, Duke of Hoang, Viceroy of Dai Viet, by his wife, Empress Anh Tông Hiếu Nhĩa, educ. privately. Appointed as Heir Apparent and granted the title of Phó Tướng Tộ Trường Hầu (Marquess Tộ Trường) by his father. Succeeded on the death of his father, 7^th February 1691. Assumed the title of Tiết Chế Thủy Bộ Chư Dinh Kiêm Tổng Nội Ngoại Bình Chương Quân Quốc Trọng Sự Thái bảo Tộ Quốc Công (Duke of Tong) with the appellation of Thien-tung Dao-nhon. Assumed the title of Quốc Chúa (Master of the State) in 1693. Acquired the province of Binh-Thuan from Champa in 1693 and added Gia-Dinh and Ha-Tien to his domains. Removed his capital to Bac Vong, on the Bo river, 1712. Persecuted the foreign missionaries and tripled the taxes levied on Christians. Prince Nguyễn-Phúc Côn [Hưng Tổ Hiếu Khang Hoàng Đế], by his wife, Nguyễn Thị Hoàn, daughter of Nguyễn Phúc Trung, Duke of Diễn. She d. at Huế, 26^th May 1837, having had issue – see below.

1765 - 1777 H.M. [Nguyễn-Phúc Thuần] Khánh-phu Dao-nhon ThienVuong [Duệ Tông Hiếu Định Hoàng Đế], King of Annam. b. 31^st December 1753, sixteenth son of H.M. [Nguyễn-Phúc Khoát] Tu-te-dao-nhon [Thế Tông Hiếu Võ Hoàng Đế], King of Annam, by his wife, Huệ Tĩnh Thánh Mẫu Nguyễn Sư, educ. privately. Raised to the throne by Trương Phúc Loan, who retained most of the power in his hands, 31^st December 1765. The Tay Son forces rebelled and occupied the provinces of Qui-Nhon and Quảng-Nghia in 1773. Fled to Gia-Dingh when the Trinh forces attacked and captured the capital of Phu-Xuan, 1775 (in the 12^th month of the lunar year). Fled to Cochin-China with his family. Abdicated 1777 (in the 11^th month of the lunar year) in favour of Hoang-Ton, receiving the title of Thái Thượng Vương. Raised to the posthumous titles of Thông Minh Khoan Hậu Anh Mẫn Huệ Hòa Hiếu Định Vương 1778, and prom to Thông Minh Khoan Hậu Anh Mẫn Huệ Hòa Hiếu Định Hoàng Ðế with the temple name of Duệ Tông by Emperor Gia Long in 1806. m. Nguyễn Thị Châu, Chính phi, daughter of Quận công Nguyễn Cửu Sách. He was k. by the Tay-Son rebels, at Lang Xuyen, 18^th October 1777 (bur. Trường Thiệu Mausoleum, La Khê, Hương Trà, in Thừa Thiên province), having had issue, an only daughter:

1) H.H. Princess (Hoàng nử) Ngọc Thục. m. Tống Văn Thịnh, sometime Uy Vũ Vệ úy. She d. 1816 (bur. Dương Xuân, Hương Thủy, in Thừa Thiên province).
