Technical Terms & Abbreviations---
Means practical knowledge on electrical systems including installing, maintaining, operating, or repairing electrical equipment.

OBS---- ( Official Bulletin Station. )

Occupied Bandwidth---- ( The width of the transmitted frequency band such that, below the lower and above the upper frequency limits, the mean powers emitted are each equal to 0.5% (-23dB) of the total mean power of a given emission. )

Octet---- ( A group of eight bits. )

OD---- ( Outside diameter. )

OES---- ( Official Emergency Station. )

Offset---- ( The 300 to 1000-Hz difference in CW transmitting and receiving frequencies in a transceiver. For a repeater, offset refers to the difference between its transmitting and receiving frequencies. )

Offset Frequency---- ( Frequency difference between Transmit and Receive. )

Ohm---- ( Unit of resistance. One ohm is defined as the resistance that will allow one ampere of current when one volt of EMF is impressed across the resistance; The basic unit of Resistance, Reactance, and Impedance or The basic unit of electrical resistance, used to describe the amount of opposition to current. )

Ohmmeter---- ( A meter that measures the value of resistors. Usually part of a multimeter. See VOM and DMM. )

Ohm's Law---- ( A basic law of electronics, it gives a relationship between Voltage, Resistance and Current: E=IR or Ohm's Law gives a relationship between voltage (E), current (I) and resistance (R). The voltage applied to a circuit is equal to the current through the circuit times the resistance of the circuit. )

One-way Communications---- ( Transmissions that are not indented to be answered. The FCC strictly limits the types of one-way communications allowed on the amateur bands. )

OOK---- ( On-off keying. )

op amp---- ( Operational amplifier. )

Open Circuit---- ( An electrical circuit that does not have a complete path, so current can't flow through the circuit. )

OSC---- ( Oscillator. )

Open Repeater---- ( A repeater whose access is not limited or A repeater that can be used ny all hams who have a license that authorizes operation on the repeater frequencies. )

Operational Amplifier (op amp)---- ( An integrated circuit that contains a symmetrical circuit of transistors resistors with highly improved characteristics over other forms of analog amplifiers. )

Operator/primary station license---- ( An amateur license actually includes two licenses in one. The operator license is that portion of an Amateur Radio license that gives permission to operate an amateur station. The primary station license is that portion of an Amateur Radio license that authorizes an amateur station at a specific location. The station license also lists the call sign of that station. )

Orbital Elements---- ( The classical set of six orbital element numbers used to define and compute satellite orbital motions.(see "Keplerian Elements") )

Orbital Plane---- ( An imaginary plane, extending throughout space, that contains the satellite orbit. )

Originate---- ( The station initiating a call. In modem usage, the calling station or modem tones associated therewith. )

ORS---- ( Official Relay Station. )

OSC---- ( Oscillator. )

OSCAR---- ( An acronym for Orbiting Satellite Carrying Amateur Radio, a series of Amateur Radio satellites designed and built by the international ham radio community. )

Oscarlocator---- ( A graphical satellite tracking device used to locate a satellite in its orbit and aid in pointing antennas. )

Oscillate---- ( Vibrate, generate an AC or other periodic signal. )

Oscillator---- ( An unstable analog system, which causes the output signal to vary spontaneously. )

Oscilloscope---- ( An electric test instrument used to observe wave forms and voltages on a cathode-ray tube. )

OSI-RM---- ( Open Systems Interconnection Reference Model specified in ISO 7498 and CCITT Rec x.200. )

OTC---- ( Old Timer's Club. )

OTS---- ( Official Traffic Station. )

Out-of-band emission (Splatter)---- ( An emission on a frequency immediately outside the necessary bandwidth caused by over modulation on peaks (excluding spurious emissions). )

Output Frequency---- ( The frequency of the repeater's transmitter (and your transceiver's receiver) or A repeaters transmitting frequency. To use a repeater, transmit on the "input frequency" and receive on the output frequency. )

Over---- ( A word used to indicate the end of a voice transmission. )

Over-modulating---- ( Incoming voice is muffled or whistling; usually caused when a preamp microphone is turned too high . )

Over modulation---- ( Talking too loud; audio is distorted or otherwise unreadable. )

oz---- ( ounce (force unit, 1/16 pound). )

"The copyright issue is a sticky one for Web site owners and their employees, particularly contractors.
Currently in the United States, there are no laws that specifically address copyright issues in the online world.
However, the U.S. courts have ruled that existing copyright laws governing the print world can be applied to the online world."
