l---- ( Liter (liquid volume). )

lb---- ( Pound (force unit). )

L---- ( Lambert; inductor. )

Landline (Double L)---- ( Telephone call. )

Land line---- ( A stationary telephone; not a cellular-phone. )

LAP---- ( Link access procedure, CCITT X.25 unbalanced-mode communications. )

LAPB---- ( Link access procedure, balanced, CCITT X.25 balanced-mode communications. )

Last Personal---- ( A person's actual last name, not their handle (e.g. "What's your Last Personal?"). See also "First Personal". )

Layer---- ( In communications protocols, one of the strata or levels in a reference model. )

LC---- ( Inductance-capacitance. )

LCD---- ( Liquid Crystal Display; A low power display device utilizing the physics of liquid crystals. They usually need either ambient light or backlighting to be seen. )

LED---- ( Light-emitting diode; A diode that emits light when an appropriate voltage (usually 1.5 V at about 20 mA) is connected. They are used either as tiny pilot lights or in bar shapes to display letters and numbers. )

Level 1---- ( Physical layer of the OSI reference model. )

Level 2---- ( Link layer of the OSI reference model. )

Level 3---- ( Network layer of the OSI reference model. )

Level 4---- ( Transport layer of the OSI reference model. )

Level 5---- ( Session layer of the OSI reference model. )

Level 6---- ( Presentation layer of the OSI reference model. )

Level 7---- ( Application layer of the OSI reference model. )

LF---- ( Low Frequency 30-300 kHz range signals. )

LHC---- ( Left-hand circular (polarization). )

Lid---- ( Ignorant CB radio operator (CB’er with poor operating skills. The Term LID originated in Amateur radio and the CW mode. It meant "Poor Fist"). )

Lightning Protection---- ( There are several ways to help prevent lightning damage to your equipment (and your house), among them unplugging equipment, disconnecting antenna feed lines and using a lightning arrestor. )

Lights---- ( The signal strength of a received signal or S-meter units. (e.g. "You're giving me about 8 lights"). See also "Pounds" . )

Li-lon---- ( Rechargeable battery which has a better capacity than Ni-Cad, Ni-MH, and others, No memory effect after re-peated non-full charge/discharge cycles.) . )

Limiter---- ( A stage of an FM receiver that makes the receiver less sensitive to amplitude variations and pulse noise. )

Linear amplifier---- ( Device used to step up power above legal maximum set by FCC. )

Linearity---- ( The property found in nature and most analog electrical circuits that governs the processing and combination of signals by treating all signal levels the same way. )

Line-of-sight Propagation---- ( The term used to describe VHF and UHF propagation in a straight line directly from one station to another. )

LO---- ( Local oscillator; League Official. )

Loaded antenna---- ( Antenna shorter than wavelength but with loading coil in its construction. )

Loading---- ( The condition that occurs when a cascaded analog stage modifies the operation of the previous stage. )

Loading coil---- ( Wire wound to increase the electrical length of the antenna. )

Load Line---- ( A line drawn through a family of characteristic curves that shows the operating points of an analog device for a given output load impedance. )

Lollipop--- ( Astatic D 104 desk microphone. )

Loopback---- ( A test performed by connecting the output of a modulator to the input of a demodulator. )

Loran---- ( A navigation system using very-low-frequency transmitters. )

LOS---- ( Lost of signal- The time when a satellite passes out of range and signals from it can no longer be heard. This usually occurs just after the satellite goes below the horizon;. )

Lower sideband (LSB)---- ( The common single-sideband operating mode on the 40, 80 and 160-meter amateur bands. )

Low-pass filter---- ( A filter that allows signals below the cutoff frequency to pass through and attenuates signals above the cutoff frequency. )

LP---- ( Log periodic. )

LPF---- ( Low Pass Filter. )

LS---- ( Loudspeaker. )

lsb---- ( least significant bit. )

LSB---- ( Lower sideband. )

LSI---- ( Large-scale integration. )

LUF---- ( Lowest usable frequency. )

LW---- ( Long Wave 150 - 300 KHz . )

The Copyright Minefield By Jacqui Kramer, Contributing Author

"The copyright issue is a sticky one for Web site owners and their employees, particularly contractors.
Currently in the United States, there are no laws that specifically address copyright issues in the online world.
However, the U.S. courts have ruled that existing copyright laws governing the print world can be applied to the online world."
