Technical Terms & Abbreviations---
Means practical knowledge on electrical systems including installing, maintaining, operating, or repairing electrical equipment.
i---- (
Current, indicating lamp .
)
I (intensity)---- (
Symbol for current in an electric circuit, measured in Amperes; Indicating lamp.
)
IA5---- (
International Alphabet No. 5, a 7-bit coded character set, CCITT version of ASCII.
)
IARU---- (
International Amateur Radio Union.
)
IC---- (
Integrated Circuit, a one piece chip holding thousands of transistors or A complete circuit built into a single electronic component.
)
ID---- (
Identification; inside diameter.
)
IEEE---- (
Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
)
IF---- (
Intermediate Frequency.
)
IF Shift---- (
A function that electronically shifts IF Frequency from a center frequency.
)
Image---- (
Facsimile and television emissions having designators with A, C, D, F, G, H, J and R as the first symbol;
1, 2 or 3 as the second symbol; C or F as the third symbol; and emissions having B as the first symbol; 7, 8 or 9 as the second symbol;
W as the third symbol.
)
IMD---- (
Intermodulation distortion; Distortion within RF Circuits made with upper and lower adjacent channel signals.
)
Impedance (Z)---- (
The complex combination of resistance and reactance, measured in ohms; The opposition or resistance to a
flow of electric current (27MHz CBs are 500hms) or A term used to describe a combination of reactance and resistance in a circuit..
)
Impedance (Z)---- (
The opposition to electric current in a circuit. Impedance includes factors other than resistance, and applies to alternating currents.
Ideally, the characteristic impedance of a feed line is the same as the transmitter output impedance and the antenna input impedance.
)
Impedance-matching Device---- (
A device that matches one impedance level to another. For example, it may match the impedance of an antenna system to the
impedance of a transmitter or receiver. Amateurs also call such devices a Transmatch, impedance-matching network or "antenna Tuner".
)
in---- (
inch (unit of length).
)
Inclination---- (
The angle between the orbital plane of a satellite and the equatorial plane of the Earth.
)
Increment---- (
The change in longitude of ascending node between two successive passes of a specified satellite, measured in degrees West per orbit.
)
inductance (L)---- (
A measure of the ability of a coil to store energy in a magnetic field; Measured in Henry's (H).
)
Induction---- (
The transfer of electrical signals via magnetic coupling.
)
Inductor---- (
An electrical component usually composed of a
coil of wire wound on a central core. An inductor stores energy in a magnetic field.
)
in/s---- (
Inch per second (unit of velocity).
)
Info---- (
Information.
)
Information Bulletin---- (
A message directed only to amateur operators consisting solely of subject matter of direct interest to the amateur service.
)
Information field---- (
Any sequence of bits containing the intelligence to be conveyed.
)
Input Frequency---- (
The frequency of the repeater's receiver ( and your transceiver's transmitter ) or To use a repeater,
transmit on the input frequency and receive on the output frequency.
)
Input-Output Differential---- (
The voltage drop appearing across the series pass transistor in a linear voltage regulator.
This term is usually stated as a minimum value, which is that voltage necessary to allow the regulator to function and conduct current.
A typical figure for this drop in most three-terminal regulator ICs is about 2.5 V. In other words, a regulator that is to provide 12.5 V dc will
need a source voltage of at least 15.0 V at all times to maintain regulation.
)
Integrated Circuit (IC)---- (
A semiconductor device in which many components, such as diodes, bipolar transistors, field-effect transistors, resistors,
and capacitors are fabricated to make an entire circuit.
)
Interference---- (
The unwanted interaction between electronic systems.
)
Intermediate Frequency (IF)---- (
The output frequency of a mixing stage in a superheterodyne receiver. The subsequent stages in the
receiver are tuned for maximum efficiency at the IF.
)
Intermodulation---- (
The undesired mixing of two or more frequencies in a nonlinear device, which produces additional frequencies.
)
Intermodulation Distortion (IMD)---- (
The unwanted mixing of two strong RF signals that causes a signal to be transmitted on an unintended frequency.
)
International Amateur Radio Union (IARU)---- (
The international organization made up of national Amateur Radio organizations such as the ARRL.
)
International Morse Code---- (
A dot-dash code as defined in International Telegraph and Telephone Consultative Committee (CCITT)
Recommendation F.1 (1984), Division B, I. Morse Code.
)
International Telecommunication Union (ITU)---- (
ITU--The International organization with the responsibility
for dividing the range of communications frequencies between the various services for the ENTIRE WORLD.
)
Inverter---- (
A circuit for producing ac power from a dc source.
)
I/O---- (
Input/Output.
)
Ionizing Radiation---- (
Electromagnetic radiation that has sufficient energy to knock electrons free from their atoms, producing positive and negative ions.
X-rays, gamma rays and ultraviolet radiation are examples of ionizing radiation.
)
Ionosphere ---- (
A region in the atmosphere about 30 to 260 miles
above the earth. The ionosphere is made up of charged particles, or ions.); A region of electrically charged (ionized) gases high in the
atmosphere. The ionosphere bends radio waves as they travel through it, returning them to Earth. Also see "sky-wave propagation".
)

International reply coupon.
)
ISB---- (
Independent sideband.
)
ISI---- (

"The copyright issue is a sticky one for Web site owners and their employees, particularly contractors.
Currently in the United States, there are no laws that specifically address copyright issues in the online world.
However, the U.S. courts have ruled that existing copyright laws governing the print world can be applied to the online world."
If by mistake, I've used someone's copyright material, notify me, and I'll remove it.
