Technical Terms & Abbreviations---
Means practical knowledge on electrical systems including installing, maintaining, operating, or repairing electrical equipment.

g---- ( Gram (unit of mass). )

G---- ( Giga (the metric prefix for 10*9 or times 1,000,000,000; Conductance. )

GaAs---- ( Gallium arsenide; a synthetic compound (GaAs) used esp. as a semi-conducting material.(GALLIUM)a rare bluish white metallic element that is hard and brittle at low temperatures but melts just above room temperature and expands on freezing.(ARSENIDE)a binary compound of arsenic with a more positive element. )

Gain---- ( An increase in the effective power radiated by an antenna in a certain desired direction, or an increase in Received signal strength from a certain direction. )

Gain-Bandwidth Product---- ( The interrelationship between amplification and frequency that defines the limits of the ability of a device to act as a linear amplifier. In many amplifier, gain times bandwidth is approximately constant. )

Gate---- ( The connection at the control point of a field-effect transistor, often the input. )

Gateway---- ( In packet radio, an interchange point. )

G.B.Y.---- ( God Bless You. )

GDO---- ( Grid- or gate-dip oscillator. )

General-coverage receiver---- ( A receiver used to listen to a wide range of frequencies. Most general-coverage receivers tune from frequencies below the standard-broadcast band to at least 30 MHz. These frequencies include the shortwave-broadcast bands and the amateur bands from 160 to 10 meters. )

Geocenter---- ( The center of the Earth. )

Geological survey---- ( CB'er who tries to modify the internal components of his CB set. )

Geostationary Obit---- ( A satellite orbit at such an altitude (approximately 22,300 miles) over the equator that the satellite appears to be fixed above a given point. )

German Band---- ( Germany uses FM and AM Radios and will honor licenses from other countries using CEPT-approved radios.--
40 channels, same frequencies as USA 4W max power (26.965 - 27.405 AM/FM);using this band are marked "PR 27 GB" or "CEPT PR 27 GB" and are CEPT-approved.
)

GHz---- ( gigahertz (10*9hz. )

Glory card---- ( FCC License; class D license. )

GND---- ( ground. )

G.P.---- ( Ground plane antenna. )

Grace Period---- ( The time FCC allows following the expiration of an amateur license to renew that license without having to retake an examination. Those who hold an expired license may not operate an amateur station until the license is reinstated. )

Ground---- ( A low-impedance electrical connection to the earth. Also, a common reference point in electronic circuits. )

Ground connection---- ( A connection made to the Earth for electrical safety. This connection can be made inside ( to a metal cold-water pipe) or outside (to a ground rod). )

Grounding---- ( Electrical connection to earth. )

Grid---- ( The vacuum-tube element that controls the electron flow from cathode to plate. Additional grids in some tubes perform another control functions to improve performance. )

Ground Fault (Circuit) Interrupter (GFI or GFCI)---- ( A safety device installed between the household power mains and equipment where there is a danger of personnel touching an earth ground while operating the equipment. The GFI senses any current flowing directly to ground and immediately switches off all power to the equipment to minimize electrical shock, GFIs are now standard equipment in bathroom and outdoor receptacles. )

Ground Plane---- ( A type of Non-directional or Omni-directional Antenna for base station. )

Ground rod---- ( A copper or copper-clad steel rod that is driven into the earth. A heavy copper wire from the ham shack connects all station equipment to the ground rod. )

Ground Station---- ( A radio station, on or near the surface of the Earth, designed to transmit or receive to/from a spacecraft. )

Groundtrack---- ( The imaginary line traced on the surface of the Earth by the subsatellite point (SSP). )

Ground Wave---- ( Electrical wave directly travelling from transmitter. )

Ground-wave Propagation---- ( The method by which radio waves travel along the Earth's surface. )

The Copyright Minefield By Jacqui Kramer, Contributing Author

"The copyright issue is a sticky one for Web site owners and their employees, particularly contractors.
Currently in the United States, there are no laws that specifically address copyright issues in the online world.
However, the U.S. courts have ruled that existing copyright laws governing the print world can be applied to the online world."
