)
Band---- (
A range of Frequencies or any section of a radio spectrum. Hams are authorized
to transmit on several different bands.
)
Band Plan---- (
An agreement for operating within a certain portion of the radio spectrum.
)
Band Pass Filter---- (
A circuit that allows signals to go through it only if they are
within a certain range of frequencies, and attenuates signals Above and Below this range.
)
Band scanner---- (
Same as scanner used for scanning emergency channels.
)
Bandwidth---- (
The width of a frequency band outsideof which the mean power is attenuated at least 26 dB
below the mean power of the total emission, including allowances for transmitter drift or Doppler shift.
Bandwidth describes the range of frequencies that a radio transmission occupies; Frequency need for a particular type of Transmission; i.e.,
AM-10 kHz; SSB-5 kHz; FM-10 khz below 30mhz and 150 kHz. above.
)
Band Spread---- (
A receiver quality used to describe now far apart stations on different nearby frequencies will seem to be. We usually express
band spread as the number of kilohertz that the frequency changes per tuning-knob rotation. Band spread and frequency resolution are related.
The amount of band spread determines how easily signals can be tuned.
)
Bandwidth---- (
The width of a transmitted frequency band outside of which the mean power of the transmitted
signal is attenuated at least 26 dB below the mean power of the transmitted signal within the band.
)
Bank---- (
Memory Bank.
)
Barefoot---- (
CB set without linear amplifier; i.e.,legal. Also, running radio without license.
)
Barefoot base-Barefoot mobile---- (
Same as "barefoot".
)
Base---- (
The middle layer of a bipolar transistor, often the input.
)
Base radio---- (
CB in a fixed location.
)
Base station---- (
Station that is in a fixed position (e.g., in a home).
)
Battery---- (
A device that converts chemical energy into electrical energy.
)
Baud---- (
A unit of signaling speed equal to the number of discrete conditions or events per second. (If
the duration of a pulse is 20 ms, the signaling rate is 50 baud or the reciprocal of 0.02, abbreviated Bd).
)
Baudot---- (
A five-bit digital code used in teleprinter applications.
)
Baudot Code---- (
A coded character set in which five bits represent one character. Used inn the U.S. to refer to ITA2.
)
BBC---- (
British Broadcasting Corporation.
)
BC---- (
Broadcast.
)
BCD---- (
Binary coded decimal.
)
BCI---- (
Broadcast Interference.
)
Bd---- (
Baud (bit/s in single-channel binary data transmission).
)
Beacon Station---- (
An amateur station transmitting communications for the purpose of abservation
of propagation and reception or other related experimental activities.
)
Beam Antenna---- (
Type of directional antenna; antenna that gives a directional beam pattern.
A beam antenna must be rotated to provide coverage in different directions
)
Beat-Frequency Oscillator (BFO)---- (
A receiver circuit that provides a signal to the detector. The BFO signal mixes with the incoming signal to produce an audio
tone CW reception. A BFO is needed to copy CW and SSB signals.
)
Be-Bop---- (
Tone signals transmitted by a radio control (RC)
transmitter or a selective calling system that turns on a mobile transceiver when the
correct code is received. RC signals are heard only on Channel 23, which is a shared frequency.
)
Bell 103---- (
A 300-baud full-duplex modem using 200-Hz-shift FSK of tones centered at 1170 and 2125 Hz..
)
Bell 202---- (
A 1200-baud modem standard with 1200-Hz mark, 2200-Hz spae, used for VHF FM packet radio.
)
BER---- (
Bit error rate.
)
BERT---- (
Bit-error-rate test.
)
BFO---- (
Beat Frequency Oscillator; To successfully demodulate a SSB signal, you need
a "substitute carrier; A substitute carrier can be supplied by the beat frequency oscillator (BFO) circuit used when
receiving SSB signals.Even when precisely tuned, the audio quality of a SSB signal is less than that of an AM signal.
)
Biasing---- (
The addition of a dc voltage or current to a signal at the input of an analog device,
which changes the signal's position on the characteristic curve.
)
Bipolar Transistor---- (
An analog device made by sandwiching a layer of doped semiconductor
between two layers of the opposite type; PNP or NPN, a term used to denote the common two junction transistor
types (NPN,PNP) as opposed to the field effect families of devices (JFET, MOSFET and so on.)

"The copyright issue is a sticky one for Web site owners and their employees, particularly contractors.
Currently in the United States, there are no laws that specifically address copyright issues in the online world.
However, the U.S. courts have ruled that existing copyright laws governing the print world can be applied to the online world."
