The Tejas Scholarship Endowment received a huge boost over the April 17th weekend.
With the support of Texas A&M-Commerce Alumni Office and through the efforts of
several Tejas, a Tejas Railroad excursion from Commerce to Sulphur Springs was
initiated and turned into a huge success.
The Railroad excursion was planned to coincide with the First/Last Dinner Dance
and was the brainchild of Frank Turner. The committee working on the event included
Frank, Jace Carrington, David Jackson, Dr. Tarpley, Joe Johnson, Tony Gavin, Buffer Bethea,
John Moss, Bobby Harper, Kenneth Threldkeld, Gene Castleberry plus Dr.Kayla Price and
the Alumni office at A&M-Commerce.
A special thanks to Wayne Defebaugh and the employees of the Blacklands Railroad, Rosalie Turner,
Jim Woodfield(Train conductor), Dr. McFarland(President Texas A&M-Commerce), Sheryl Zelhart(Mayor of Commerce),
Brad Burgin(Mayor of Sulphur Springs) and Cletis Millsap(Hopkins County Judge). Also a big thanks to the
folks that provided the entertainment during the train rides.
If I have missed anyone, please let me know.
