The Karang Asem Dynasty

GENEALOGY

1804 - 1806 Sri Ratu Anak Agung Nyoman Karangasem, Raja of Buleleng, second son of Sri Paduka Ratu Gusti Gede Ngurah Karangasem [Gusti Alitan] [Devata Tohpati], Raja of Karangasem, by his third wife, a lady from Tembega. Arrived in Buleleng with the Karangasem forces and later entered the service of I Gusti Ngurah Jelantik. Appointed by the latter as Iwaraja and Adipati. Joint Regent of Buleleng with his brother, I Gusti Wayahan Karangasem, under the sovereignty of the Raja of Karangasem, 1793. Seized the throne in 1804. m. I Gusti Ayu Wayan, daughter of I Gusti Ngurah Made Krangassem [Devata Sinha Karangasem], of Singasari Karangasem. He d.s.p. of illness, in Buleleng, after 1806 (succ. by his elder brother).

1806 - 1818 Sri Ratu Anak Agung Gede Karangasem [Wayan Batan], Raja of Buleleng, eldest son of Sri Paduka Ratu Gusti Gede Ngurah Karangasem [Gusti Alitan] [Devata Tohpati], Raja of Karangasem, by his third wife, a lady from Tembega. Succeeded on the death of his younger brother, 1806. m. I Gusti Ayu Jelantik, daughter of I Gusti Ngurah Made Karangasem [Devata Sinha Karangasem], Raja of Karangasem and Singaraja. He was k. in an ambush at Pengambengan, Jembrana, 1818 (succ. by his only son), having had issue, a son and a daughter:

1) I Gusti Ayu Kemarukan. m. her half-brother, Sri Ratu Anak Agung Pahang [Deva Canang], Raja of Buleleng (b. 1800; k. in Karangasem, 1823), son of I Gusti Gede Wayan Karangasem [Wayan Batan], Raja of Buleleng. She was k. in Karangasem, 1823 - see below.

1818 - 1823 Sri Ratu Anak Agung Pahang [Deva Canang], Raja of Buleleng. b. 1800, only surviving son of Sri Ratu Anak Agung Gede Karangasem [Wayan Batan], Raja of Buleleng, by his wife, I Gusti Ayu Jelantik, educ. peivately. Succeeded on the death of his father, 1818. m. (first) Ratu Agung, daughter of I Gusti Gede Kelodan, of Karangasem. m. (second) his half-sister, I Gusti Ayu Kemarukan (k. in Karangasem, 1823), daughter of Sri Ratu Anak Agung Gede Karangasem [Wayan Batan], Raja of Buleleng, by his wife, I Gusti Ayu Jelantik, daughter of I Gusti Ngurah Made Karangasem [Devata Sinha Karangasem], Raja of Karangasem and Singaraja. He was k. in Karangasem, 1823 (succ. by his brother-in-law).

1823 - 1825 Sri Ratu Anak Agung Gede Made Suri [I Gusti Made Oka Suri], Raja of Buleleng, son of I Gusti Gede Kelodan, of Karangasem. Succeeded on the death of first cousin and brother-in-law, 1823. Deposed 1825. m. (first) I Gusti Luh Ketut Rai, daughter of Sri Paduka Ratu Gusti Ngurah Made Karangasem [Ratu Ngurah Panji] [Devata Loji], Raja of Karangasem Singasari. m. (second) a lady from Kelerkauh. He d. after 1825 (succ. by his first cousin), having had issue, two sons and one daughter:

1) I Gusti Bagus Made Oka (s/o I Gusti Luh Ketut Rai). Punggawa of Sideman.
2) I Gusti Gede Penida (s/o the Kelerkauh lady). Punggawa of Rendang. He had issue, one son and one daughter:
- a) I Gusti Nengah Karang. He had issue, four sons and two daughters:
  - i) I Gusti Ketut Rai Menger.
  - ii) I Gusti Wayan Rai Tutur. He had issue, three sons:
    - (1) I Gusti Gede Ngurah, Suriya di-Ning Rat.
    - (2) I Gusti Nengah Karang.
    - (3) I Gusti Made Karang. He was k. by the NICA, during the revolution, 1946.

  - iv) I Gusti Gede Rai. Punggawa of Abang. He had issue, one son and two daughters:
    - (1) I Gusti Bagus Karang.
    - (2) I Gusti Ayu Alit.
  - i) I Gusti Ayu Nengah Rai Rijek.
  - ii) I Gusti Ayu Rai Keter.
- a) I Gusti Ayu Alit.
3) I Gusti Ketut Gede. He had issue, one son:
- a) I Gusti Bagus Karang. Punggawa. He had issue, two sons and three daughters:
  - i) I Gusti Made Oka Acreng.
  - ii) I Gusti Made Oka Rama.
  - i) I Gusti Ayu Karang.
  - ii) I Gusti Ayu Made Oka.
  - iii) I Gusti Ayu Anum.
1) I Gusti Ayu Karang (d/o I Gusti Luh Ketut Rai). m. Anak Agung Gede Oka.

1825 - 1849 Sri Ratu Anak Agung Ngurah Made Karangasem, Raja of Buleleng, son of I Gusti Wayahan Karangasem, sometime Joint Regent of Buleleng. Succeeded on the death of his first cousin, 1825. Concluded a treaty of trade and friendship with the government of the Netherlands East Indies, December 1841. Defeated by the Dutch and fled from Den Bukit, 1846. m. 183x, He was k. in battle, at Bale Punduk, Karangasem, 22^nd May 1849.
