Rani Umayamma of Attingal. Became Regent for her son, on the death of Raja Aditya Varma in 1678. Granted the English the right to build a trading post at Anchuthengu (Anjengo) in one of her last acts as regent in 1684. She m. and had issue, six sons (five of them drowned by the eight Nair chiefs, at Manakad while bathing):

After the death of her sons she adopted an entire family from the Kolathunad Royal House, the Koil Tampurans of Kilimanur. She d. at the Koyikkal Palace, Trivandrum, 1706, leaving three adopted sons and two adopted daughters:

1) H.H. Maharaj Raja Ramaraja Unni Kerala Varma III, Raja of Venad - see below.
2) H.H. Maharaj Raja Ramaraja Aditya Varma, Raja of Venad - see below.
3) H.H. Maharaj Raja Ramaraja Rama Varma, Raja of Venad - see below
1) A princess known as the Senior Rani of Attingal, daughter of Ittammar Raja of Beypore Thattarikovilakam, of the Kolathundu Royal House. Adopted 1705. m. 1705, M.R.Ry. Rama Varma, Koil Tampuran of Kilimanur, elder son of a sister of Ittammar Raja of Beypore Thattarikovilakam. She d.s.p. 1706.
2) Rani Kartika Tirunal, Junior Rani of Attingal, daughter of Ittammar Raja of Beypore Thattarikovilakam, of the Kolathundu Royal House. Adopted 1705. m. 1705, M.R.Ry. Raghava Varma, Koil Tampuran of Kilimanur (d. 1707), younger son of a sister of Ittammar Raja of Beypore Thattarikovilakam. She had issue, one son and one daughter:
- a) H.H. Maharaja Sri Patmanabha Valia Martanda Varma I, Maharaja of Travancore - see below.
- a) Rani Pururuttathi Tirunal.
The Junior Rani of Attingal also adopted a daughter in 1718:
- b) A princess from the Kolathunad Royal House only known to history as the Senior Rani of Attingal. m. M.R.Ry. Kerala Varma Avargal, Koil Tampuran of Kilimanur (k. in battle 1728). She had issue, two sons:
  - i) H.H. Maharaj Raja Ramaraja Sri Patmanabha Dasa Vanchipala Rama Varma II [Kartika Tirunal] Dharmaraja, Kulasekhara Kiritapati Manney Sultan Bahadur, Shamsher Jang, Raja of Travancore - see below.
  - ii) Prince Makayiram Tirunal, educ. privately. Invested as Heir Apparent with the title of Eliya Raja, 1758. He d. 1786, having had issue, a daughter:
    - (1) Shrimathi Parvathipilla Thankachi. m. Kerala Varma Tampuran, of the Chertallay family. She had issue:
      - (a) Sri Ravi Varman Tampi [Irayimman Thampi]. b. at Kizhakke Mathom, 1782. m. Shrimathi Kalyanipilla Thankachi. He d. 1862, having had issue, seven children, including a daughter:
        
        (i) Shrimathi Kuttikunju Thankachi. b. 1820, educ. privately. Poet, composer and auhoress of "Swargavathil Ekadashy", "Ekadashy Mahatmyam", "Gangasnanam", "Anjathavasam", "Naradamohanam", "Seetha Swayamvaram", "Kiratham", "Nalacharitham", etc. She d. 1914..

1678 - 1705 H.H. Maharaj Raja Ramaraja Ravi Varma, Raja of Venad. b. 1668, eldest son of Rani Umayamma of Attingal, educ. privately. Succeeded on the death of Raja Aditya Varma, 1678. Reigned under the regency of his mother until he came of age and was invested with full ruling powers, 1684. He d. at Padmanabhapuram Palace, Thukalai, 1705 (succ. by his adopted brother).

1705 - 1718 H.H. Maharaj Raja Ramaraja Unni Kerala Varma III, Raja of Venad, eldest son of of Ittammar Raja of Beypore Thattarikovilakam, of the Kolathundu Royal House, by his wife, a princess of from the Kolathunad Royal House, educ. privately. Adopted by the Rani Regent Umayamma of Attingal, 1705. Succeeded on the death of his adopted brother, 1704. He d. at Trivandrum, 1718.

1718 - 1721 H.H. Maharaj Raja Ramaraja Aditya Varma, Raja of Venad, second son of of Ittammar Raja of Beypore Thattarikovilakam, of the Kolathundu Royal House, by his wife, a princess of from the Kolathunad Royal House, educ. privately. Adopted by the Rani Regent Umayamma of Attingal, 1705. Succeeded on the death of his elder full brother, 1718. He d. (poisoned by the eight Nair cheifs) at Padmanabhapuram Palace, Thukalai, 1721 (succ. by his full brother).

1721 - 1729 H.H. Maharaj Raja Ramaraja Rama Varma, Raja of Venad, third son of of Ittammar Raja of Beypore Thattarikovilakam, of the Kolathundu Royal House, by his wife, a princess of from the Kolathunad Royal House, educ. privately. Adopted by the Rani Regent Umayamma of Attingal, 1705. Succeeded on the death of his elder full brother, 1721. m. Shrimathi Avirama Pilla Kochamma, a Bengali lady. He d. at Kalkulam from smallpox, 27^th January 1729, having had issue, two sons and a daughter:

1) Sri Padmanabhan Tampi [Pappu Tampi] [Valiya]. Conspired with his brother and the eight Nair chiefs to oust the Heir Apparent and later Maharaja Martanda Varma. He was k. by Maharaja Martanda Varma at the Nagercoil Palace, 28^th October 1730.
2) Sri Raman Tampi [Kunju]. Conspired with his elder brother and the eight Nair chiefs to oust the Heir Apparent and later Maharaja Martanda Varma. He was k. by Maharaja Martanda Varma at the Nagercoil Palace, 28^th October 1730.
3) Shrimathi Tankamma Pilla Kochamma. She was k. with her brothers by Maharaja Martanda Varma at the Nagercoil Palace, 28^th October 1730.
