GENEALOGY
1775 - 1791 H.H. Rao
Raja Shri Pratap Singhji Veerendra Shiromani Dev Bharat
Prabhakar Bahadur, Rao Raja of Alwar. b. at
Macheri, Jaipur 1740, son of Rao Mahabat Singh, Thakur of
Macheri, in Jaipur, educ. privately. Succeeded on
the death of his father as Thakur of Macheri. Entered the
military service of the Maharaja of Jaipur at the age of
seventeen. Compelled to flee Jaipur and to abandon his
domains, because of jealousies aroused by his ambitions.
Entered the service of the Jat leader, Maharaja Suraj Mal
of Bharatpur. Quit his service when the Jats invaded
Jaipur and was rewarded by his former chief, the Maharaja
of Jaipur, by the restoration of his jagir of
Macheri. He gradually extended control over the
neighbouring districts of Rajgarh, Tehla, Malakhera and
Thana Ghazi, and annexed them to his domains. Sided with
the Imperial forces when they did battle with the Jats,
inflicting a crushing at the Battle of Barsana. Appointed
to an Imperial mansab of 5,000 zat and
5,000 sowar. Took Bala Qila, the fort of Alwar,
and established himself as an independent ruler, November
1775. Received an Imperial sanad conferring his
hereditary jagir Macheri as a direct possession
from the Emperor, thereby receiving recognition as an
independent ruler. Granted the hereditary title of Rao
Raja together with the mahi-o-maratib or the
Royal insignia, by Emperor Shah Alam II. Took control of
Lachmangarh, Ramgarh, Bansur, Behror, and Mandawar,
incorporating these within his new state of Alwar.
Removed his capital from Rajgarh to Alwar in 1775. He d.s.p.
at Bala Qila, Alwar, November 1791 (succ. by his
adopted son).
1791- 1815 H.H. Rao
Raja Shri Bakhtawar Singhji Veerendra Shiromani Dev
Bharat Prabhakar Bahadur, Rao Raja of Alwar. b. at
Thana, 1779, younger son of Thakur Dhir Singh, of Thana, educ.
privately. Adopted at an early age by his distant
relative, H.H. Rao Raja Shri Pratap Singhji Veerendra
Shiromani Dev Bharat Prabhakar Bahadur, and formally
invested as Heir Apparent with the title of Yuvraj
Sahib. Succeeded on the death of his adopted father,
November 1791. Installed on the gadi at Bala Qila,
Alwar. Threatened by the invading Marathas, he sought
protection from the British authorities. Entered into a
treaty of an offensive and defensive nature with the HEIC
on 14th November 1803. m. several
wives, including (first) H.H. Rani Moosi Sahiba (d.
by sati, at Alwar, 27th January 1815).
He d.s.p.l. at Vinay Vilas
Palace, Alwar, 27th January 1815 (succ.
by his adopted son), having had issue, one natural son:

Maharao Raja Shri Bane Singhji Veerendra Shiromani Dev
Bharat Prabhakar Bahadur, Maharao Raja of Alwar. b.
at Thana, 1806, third son of Thakur Shri Salah Singh, of
Thana, educ. privately. Adopted by H.H. Rao Raja
Shri Bakhtawar Singhji Veerendra Shiromani Dev Bharat
Prabhakar Bahadur, who died before the completion of the
actual ceremony of adoption. Recognised as sucessor by
the Government of India and formally proclaimed as ruler
on his death, 27th January 1815.Installed on
the gadi at the Durbar Hall, Vinay Vilas Palace,
Alwar. The first eleven years of his reign were spent in
a long running succession dispute with his predecessor's
natural son, with whom an accomodation was eventually
reached in 1826. Raised to the hereditary title of Maharao
Raja, 1832. Although, himself illiterate, Bane
Singhji was a great patron of the arts and a collector of
treasures of all kinds, who greatly embelished the
cultural heritage of his state. An enthusiastic builder,
he turned his capital into the magnificent spectacle of
buildings, gardens, and public places, Alwar is today. m.
several wives, including (first) a daughter of Swasti
Shri Rajadhiraja Amar Singhji Sahib, Raja of Shahpura. He
d. at Alwar, August 1857, having had issue, two
sons and a daughter:

Maharao Raja Shri Sheodan Singhji Veerendra Shiromani Dev
Bharat Prabhakar Bahadur, Maharao Raja of Alwar. b.
at Alwar, 1845, only surviving son of H.H. Maharao Raja
Shri Sawai Maharaja Bane Singhji Veerendra Shiromani Dev
Bharat Prabhakar Bahadur, Maharao Raja of Alwar, educ.
privately. Succeeded on the death of his father, August
1857. Installed on the gadi at the Durbar Hall,
Vinay Vilas Palace, Alwar. Reigned under a Council of
Administration, until he came of age and was invested
with full ruling powers, 1863. m. several wives,
including (first) at Jhalawar, 1861, the only daughter of
H.H. Maharaj Rana Shri Prithviraj Singh, Maharaj Rana of
Jhalawar. He d.s.p.l. at
Alwar, 11th October 1874 (succ. by his
