1880 - 1881 H.H. Amir al-Mumenin, Amir Muhammad Ayub Khan, Amir of Herat. b. 1857, fourth son of H.H. Amir al-Mumenin, Amir Sher 'Ali Khan, Amir of Afghanistan, by his third wife, Maryam Begum, daughter of Sa'adat Khan Mohmand, of Lalpura, educ. privately. Hero of the British defeat at Maiwand, 27th July 1880. Proclaimed his independence and established himself as Amir at Herat from March 1880 to 2nd October 1881, and at Kandahar 20th July 1881 to 22nd September 1881. Deposed and exiled to India. m. (first) Kishwar Begum, daughter of Sardar Muhammad Aslam Khan. m. (second) Bobo Gul Begum, a Circassian lady from Baghdad. m. (third) a Hazara consort. m. (fourth) a daughter of Sardar Muhammad Sami Khan. m. (fifth) a Herati consort. m. (sixth) a daughter of Sardar Nur ud-din Khan, sometime Judge at Kandahar. m. (seventh) a daughter of Sardar 'Abdu'l Salam Khan, sometime Chief Justice of Afghanistan. m. (eighth) a Persian consort. m. (ninth) a Hazara consort. m. (tenth) a Kandahari consort. m. (eleventh) another Persian consort. He d. at Lahore, Punjab, April 1914, having had issue, fifteen sons and ten daughters:
