Comparing Cheap Digital to 35mm Film

I bought a cheap little digital camera to play with. It's a Vivitar ViviCam 3350 with 640x480 pixel resolution. That's about 0.3 megapixels. But for $20 what do you expect! It is dual use and makes a decent web cam. I photographed the view below Stout's Point on Petit Jean Mountain in Conway County Arkansas and at the same time took a photo with my Nikkormat with a Micro-NIKKOR f/3.5 55mm macro lens using ASA400 Kodacolor film. There was a high, heavy overcast. I would normally shoot at 1/60th and f/8 with those lighting conditions.

I scanned the photo print at about 600x400 pixels. I then cropped the digital image from the Vivicam to match the view in the 35mm print. I reduced the size of the image from the 35mm print to the size of the cropped image from the digital camera and saved them both at reduced quality to keep the file size low, but about equal. Here are the results.

I just did this for fun. It is far from a good technical comparison between film and digital images.
