Visual Perspective in Photography

Camera to subject distance is the determining factor.

(another set of examples)

This set of three photos was made with a Kalimar 28mm lens on a Nikkormat FTN. The first was made at a camera-to-subject distance of 2.5 feet, the second at 8 feet and the third at 18 feet. Distances were measured with a tape measure. The photos illustrate the change in perspective with increasing distance from the subject. Obviously the lens did not create the changes in perspective, since the same lens was used for each photo. I blame the poor print quality on my poor choice of lighting and the new photo processor that I used for the film processing and printing.

Cropped and Enlarged
I believe that the change in perspective is obvious even in the full-frame images.
