"Hear thou, my son, and be wise, and guide thine heart in the way" (Proverbs 23:19)

David Lipscomb once said,

"We do not think anyone has ever claimed authority from Scriptures to use the organ in worship. They only claim it is not condemned. It is used as an assister in worship...Prayer, praise, thanksgiving and making melody in the heart (mind) unto the Lord are acts of worship ordained of God, but no authority do we find for the organ."

The problem is obvious. Some people just like to have instrumental music in their worship services. It certainly cannot be considered a necessity. It is highly dubious that they enhance the singing. Not to me they don't. And for those who do like them, do you presume that your entertainment is what worship is all about? No, New Testament worship is all about the heart, not how well you enjoy the service. We sing from the heart to praise God and edify our brethren...with WORDS (if we don't we are doing wrong), we pray from the heart to God, not to be heard of men but earnestly to God. We partake of the Lord's Supper, not for the nourishment, but for the communion with God...from the heart. We contribute of our means because we desire...from the heart...that His cause be furthered and that the needy be cared for. And we listen to His word proclaimed that we might be edified and Him glorified.

And all of these things are done through FAITH. Do you know why I say that? Because each of those items are straight from the word of God and we know that "Faith Cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God." If it does not come from the word of God, then it isn't by faith. It is simply by "That's what I want to do". And musical instruments in New Testament worship are not from the Bible so they cannot be by faith, it's just that "I wanna".

There have been many, many things that have arisen to divide us since the Restoration era and we need to earnestly examine each and every one of them on our knees. Some, I am convinced, are of value and do not violate the scriptures, but as with all expediences, are they worth the price of division? If you think yes they are...then can you tell me why the Holy Spirit never laid it out for us, or perhaps He just forgot.

"Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?" (Matthew 7: 22)
