29th
March 2005
Jonathon left the The Games this morning, for full story please see below. He has , I am sure you will agree, put in a sterling effort at
all the events and whilst
disappointing we of course support his
decision.

NEWSFLASH:
JONATHON LEAVES THE GAMES

Bread star Jonathon Morris has
quit Channel 4's The Games over worries his health is suffering because
he's physically and mentally tired.
After spending a night in a nearby
hotel, insomniac Jonathon returned to The Village at the Don Valley
Stadium, Sheffield declaring: "Just like Germaine Greer did in Big Brother, I have
completely underestimated the show and I'm going."
He continued: "I can't prepare or get ready physically and mentally
and I am just getting worse and worse."
Since entering The Village on Friday, Jonathon appeared anxious and has had
trouble sleeping. He was also disappointed with the judges' scores in last
night's Vault, in which he came last despite getting his Personal Best.
Show producers called in standby athlete, 25-year-old former Hear'Say
singer Danny Foster, who will join the competition in time for tonight's
Speed Skating.
Jonathon will spend the night at his parents' house near Manchester.
Inside Story:
Jonathon Morris left The Games
this morning, but not before telling his fellow athletes the reasons behind
his sensational decision.
Sitting them down at the table, Jonathon appeared anxious to allay any
fears the others held about his motives for going.
"Don't go, don't go," implored Kirsty,
giving the erstwhile Bread star a big hug before apologising. "Don't
say you're sorry, it's just one of those things. It's life," Jonathon
reassured Kirsty.
"It's to do with me," he continued. "I completely underestimated
what it would take for me inside here.
"My background in sport is pretty different from Kev's or
Phil's - I can't prepare mentally or physically," admitted Jonathon
with admirable honesty and composure.
"We all have our own reasons and our own agendas. The reasons are
manifold. I just want you to respect the decision. "And I leave with
honour and dignity - I love you to bits!" he stated, adding:
"I've enjoyed the experience. This is the best job I've had in
years."
"I want to go home to my kids," he concluded, as the others
continued to worry they could have done more to help.
"Is there anything else we cold have done
to make your time here easier?" asked Anna, drawing a resolute 'No'
from Jonathon.
And with that, the actor packed his bags and left The Village for good.
