Please Just Answer Yes or No

Bob Levy has stated that he is coming out on Monday, November 6, 2006 to speak, finally, after months of investigations into his military claims.

Levy will do this only on the radio station that he and his brother, Craig Callaway can depend on.

Levy has said that he will address the issue of his claims of military service in the United States Army Special Forces, (Green Beret).

To recapitulate upon the events of this case and to bring you up to date, I offer you the following synopsis:

    1. These are the military claims that Levy has made for more than 42 years. Claims most recently documented in a campaign to be elected Mayor of Atlantic City, and also at events while acting as a Mayor during the past several weeks while these investigations were ongoing.

    2. Bob Levy has been questioned by members of the media, and members of the real Special Forces for several months now, regarding his unsubstantiated claims to being a Green Beret in the Vietnam War.

    3. On September 9, 2006, Levy received a written communication from Sgt. Jim Simmons, who served with the MACVSOG, the most secret organization of the Vietnam War. (This means that Levy is certainly free to speak about any of his experiences).

Sgt. Simmons asked Levy to verify his military claims. Levy refused, and instead leaked Simmons' letter to a vicious friend in the media, who attempted to utilize it in an attempt to smear the honorable veteran, Simmons.

    4. In September of 2006, Derek Harper, of The Press of Atlantic City, while investigating the Levy case, asked Bob Levy directly: "Are you a Green Beret". Levy refused to answer, and would only say: "What do you think"?

    5. This is interesting to note, as I have a direct quote from Levy from August 8, 1980, in this same Press newspaper wherein he directly addresses this issue.

After Levy reportedly had saved the life of an infant who had stopped breathing on the beach of Atlantic City, he said the following:

"Asked how he felt about saving the baby, Levy said "I felt great knowing I was part of keeping another life alive. I was a Green Beret in Vietnam and I guess I've taken a few lives. It feels good to be on the other side this time."

    6. It was at this point that Levy proceeded to drag myself and my brother, Harry, into this matter (which had nothing to do with us), by suggesting with help from his friends in the media, that we were behind the investigation of him. This is not true.

    7. So, on October 9, 2006, I did proceed to commence my own investigation into the Levy matter. I did this by beginning with a personal communication to Levy.

    8. I requested Levy to sign Form #180, to permit his military records to be released. And, in the interim, I asked Levy to immediately provide a true copy of his Military Discharge form DD 214.

    9. It is important to note that Levy refused to respond to my letter to him. This is just as he refused to respond to the letter from Sgt. Jim Simmons.

    10. This is just as Levy has refused to return all of the telephone calls that his staff has promised he would return to Real Green Beret, Captain Don Bendell, and others requesting that Levy substantiate his claims of Green Beret status.

    11. On October 27, 2006 I interviewed an informant, who has always provided true statements of fact, which could be relied upon.

This reliable informant reported to me that they had received a personal contact from Bob Levy approximately two weeks ago.

It was during this contact, that Bob Levy admitted to my reliable informant that, "The Green Berets are after me, because they know that I am not one of them".

    12. I concluded my investigation of the Levy matter on October 30, 2006, and submitted the findings to my brothers' web site at HarryHurley.com.

    13. It is within these findings that I reported for the first time, that there was no record of Bob Levy ever receiving Special Forces, (Green Beret), training.

    14. It was also within my findings that there was no record of Bob Levy ever serving as a Green Beret in Vietnam.

    15. I supplemented my investigation on October 31, 2006, when I informed the public for the first time that The Press of Atlantic City was set to do a full expose on their writer's own investigation.

    16. The Press writer, Derek Harper, after conducting his own investigation and reaching the same conclusion as the members of the United States Military and me: that Levy could not substantiate his claims of Green Beret status.

    17. This expose by The Press was set to appear on October 17, 2006, and was promised to the members of the military who had worked this case, many of whom had been “sitting on the hands” awaiting the story which was to reveal Levy as an imposter.

    18. After receiving a threatening letter from Kim Baldwin, City Solicitor from Atlantic City, The Press management killed the Levy Expose.

    19. Baldwin claims, for Levy, that only they are in possession of Levy's DD 214 form, and further, they are not releasing it to The Press.

    20. It should be noted that they also refused to release the DD 214 Form to me or anyone else who may have requested it, while claiming that Levy's real military history is not complete without this form. (I promise to disprove this falsehood by Levy and Baldwin at a later date).

    21. On November 4, 2006 I directed a letter to Rosemary Adams, the City Clerk of Atlantic City, wherein I requested a true copy of Levy's DD 214 Form.

    22. I learned from my interview of the former City Solicitor, that placing a DD 214 Form on file with the City Clerk, is a "condition of employment within the City of Atlantic City". Further, this former Solicitor could not even receive their salary until the DD 214 was placed on file with Rosemary Adams and the city.

    23. I also learned from researching the law that once a document is placed on file with a city or county government, the document then becomes public information. This information must then be released under the Freedom of Information Act, when requests such as mine are made.

    24. This brings this case up to date, at this point.

As for tomorrow, November 6, 2006, I have one very specific question that I will be publicly posing to Bob Levy:

"Bob Levy... Yes or No... were you a Green Beret in Vietnam... Yes or No."

I want an honest answer, and I think the public and most importantly, the Real Members of The United States Army Special Forces deserve one, too.

    It's that simple.

    Respectfully,

    Don P. Hurley
