Statement from Principal Owner of the Atlantic City Surf and CEO of the
Atlantic League Frank Boulton:
“I received a phone call this morning from fellow Atlantic League board
director and principal owner of the Somerset Patriots, Steve Kalafer. During
the call, Mr. Kalafer relayed to me a conversation he had with New Jersey
Governor James E. McGreevey. In the conversation Governor McGreevey asked if we
would consider giving the Atlantic City Surf employees, who left their jobs on
Monday following their inappropriate actions, a second chance. I also received
this morning a letter from former Surf public-address announcer Greg Mauiro,
acknowledging that his remarks were inappropriate and asking for another
chance. As a member of the Board of Directors of the Great South Bay YMCA, I am
a firm believer in second chances. With this in mind, I have offered Mr. Maiuro
his former position. Marco Cerino, who tendered his resignation following the
incident, will also be offered the same opportunity. We now look forward to
getting back to the business of baseball as the Atlantic City Surf get ready
for the Atlantic League playoffs.”
