Press Release - Mays Landing - June 5, 2004
County Democratic Chairman Chuck Chiarello Calls on Media, Law Enforcement and Bipartisan Leadership to Crush Voter Fraud Issue Now.
"The call by County Clerk Michael Garvin for the Prosecutor to step in after over 1200 Atlantic City and Pleasantville voters have now claimed to be sick on Tuesday, June 8, 2004, has prompted me to once again appeal for an immediate corruption investigation by County, State and Federal law enforcement officials. This is now beyond politics and it is so serious that elections in Atlantic City and Pleasantville on Tuesday, may be totally corrupted in the process. This is a runaway train that must be stopped. This must be a bipartisan effort now or every town and both parties will eventually be subjected to a tainted political system which will be destroyed by corruption and voter apathy." Chuck Chiarello stated.
"The Atlantic County Freeholder Board took on a dynamic leadership role in this process over the past year in showing that the absentee ballot system is being misused. It is also my understanding that Prosecutor Jeffrey Blitz is conducting an investigation, and there are still pending matters in the Judicial System. It is now time that we must all work together and bring closure." Chiarello further commented.
"I know there are news cutoff deadlines but Atlantic County Clerk Mike Garvin announced on Channel 40 News tonight (Saturday 6-5-04) that the Prosecutor needs to step in with over 1200 absentee "messenger" ballots received from Atlantic City and Pleasantville most signed by members of the Callaway family.
Over 1200 people planning to be sick on Tuesday??? Let's get real -- its an outrage and law enforcement MUST now step in. Good honest elected officials are being hurt--destroyed by this corrupt effort for over a year and now Pleasantville is the next attack point.
I plead will all leaders and members of both parties to demand action now." Chiarello said.
