April is Autism awareness month!
The puzzle pattern of this ribbon reflects the mystery and complexity of autism, the differernt colors and shapes represents the diversity of people and families living with this disorder, the brightness of the ribbon signals hope-hope through research and increasing awareness in people like you.
This is me and my oldest son Zachary, He was dignosed with Autism when he was around 2 years old, Zachary Will be 17 April 16, 2004.
About Zach
Zachary was always a very good baby, hardly cried and was far from demanding, He was my first child, I ate right, when I was pregnant with him, I didn't even drink caffiene. Him being my first child I didn't know exactly what was "normal" and what wasn't, meaning I wasn't exactly sure if it was normal for him not to cry often, or when he should roll over, creep, walk etc. Zachary was 1 1/2 ish before he walked. Zachary was dignosed and I didn't know what to think? what does this mean? Autism? PDD? Was he going to be like other children?
Zachary first had problems in school, learning and expressing how he felt, when he was upset he would say terrible things to his teacher, Once Zachary was put in a special needs class he did and still does very well in school almost an honor roll student. He had friends, the teachers enjoy him, and he has many intrests, The Red Sox is his favorite subject though LOL.
Zachary might not be like all 17 year olds out there, He could not quite take care of himself alone right yet, if he had a job he would need extra help, He has what we call self Stimulation, (he likes to rock back and forth), He needs to be reminded when he clothes are too dirty to wear, and that he cannot put everything he comes across in his pocket lol, He is intrested in girls, he loves movies.
